Quit Smoking Hypnotherapy

Quitting smoking – “Tomorrow never comes”

I recently had and on-again off-again email exchange with a client who wanted to quit smoking. She had been referred to New Farm Hypnotherapy by some friends who had successfully quit smoking after visiting the clinic. After enquiring about our Smoke Free program and what might be the most effective way for her to quit smoking she made an appointment for the following Tuesday. The day before her appointment she emailed and postponed for a few days and this became a pattern over the next couple of weeks and in the end, she didn’t come at all.

This is not uncommon for people who want to quit smoking, in fact, most smokers put off quitting until “tomorrow.” At the time they decide to quit, the decision seems final and it seems like the right thing to do – tomorrow. The problem is that day after day, week after week, month after month, tomorrow never comes.

70% of smokers want to quit smoking

Research shows that more that 70% of smokers want to quit smoking and more that 40% try to quit in any given year so, if you are a smoker the chances are you want to quit and there is an almost 50/50 chance that you will try to do so at some time in the next 12 months.

So, is it “tomorrow” yet for you? You probably have doubts about quitting smoking and you may have tried before and not succeeded. You may feel like the time isn’t quite right. You probably also feel that there is a part of you that wants to keep smoking, a bit like wanting to hold on to a familiar habit or behaviour  that once was fun but now isn’t helpful anymore. That’s okay, in fact it’s normal and that you are reading this, means that the scales are tipping in favour of your health and freedom – it means that at some level you are ready to stop smoking.

Hypnotherapy is an easy and effective way to release yourself from the power that smoking holds over you. The reason that it’s so effective is that by using hypnotherapy when you quit you overcome all three dependencies that come with smoking. The physical, psychological and habitual are dealt with allowing you to move forward enjoying better health, a great feeling of personal achievement as well as saving a lot of money.  A client told me a few days ago that his pack of 40 cigarettes cost $38.40, this equates to about $1.00 per cigarette. Most people we see smoke about 25 cigarettes a day which means that quitting smoking saves each person we see more than $9000 a year. Do that for 25 years and that adds up to $225,000 or half the cost of a home.

At Brisbane Hypnosis Clinic / New Farm Hypnotherapy we love helping people quit smoking permanently knowing that it’s the single most important thing they can do to secure the long term health and financial freedom.

Our Smoke Free program uses hypnosis to help you make the changes you need in both your conscious and subconscious mind so that you find the process as painless and stress free as possible. When you leave the clinic after your second session you’ll feel like smoking is something you’ve let behind and don’t need to do anymore. And, you can be confident in knowing that you will remain a non-smoker for life and having helped clients for more than 20 years we’ll be there to go be you all of the support you need.

Successful Hypnotherapy

How We Work For Your Success

Getting help when you need it shouldn’t be complicated and therapy should be all about you, not about techniques and certainly not about us. Successful hypnotherapy isn’t rocket science, it’s more about relationship.

In the 20 years or so since we opened New Farm Hypnotherapy clinical hypnosis has become more and more mainstream as people have become aware of the benefits of hypnosis and; at the same time there has been a corresponding increase in the number of people advertising that they practice hypnotherapy.

As hypnotherapy and psychotherapy are self regulating professions choosing a suitable therapist can be difficult. There are many skilled and caring individuals who practice clinical hypnotherapy and this give you a wide choice, there are also recognised professional associations such as the Australian Hypnotherapists Association and the Australian Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists both of whom can help you find a suitable therapists. Of course, everyone has a different criteria for making their choice, it may be cost, location or advertising that convinces a person to see the help of one therapist over another.

While any one of these reasons may seem compelling, selecting someone to work with shouldn’t be a random choice. Successful hypnotherapy and achieving a positive outcome outcome often takes more than making a few phone calls, below are a few things you might like to think about when seeking a hypnotherapist.

Tips for finding a suitable hypnotherapist

  • Standards: Because hypnotherapy is a self regulated profession hypnotherapists are not, by law required to meet any specific national standard and the responsibility to set standard lies with professional associations such as the AHA and the ASCH. These associations set the most stringent standards in training, supervision and on-going professional development and it is probably in your best interest to choose a therapist that meets such standards. In being accepted by one of these associations hypnotherapists have agreed to abide by a code of ethics set by the association to which they belong.
  • Training: Ensure that the therapist you choose has undergone adequate training. Training may be inadequate and provided more for personal development than for professional practice. Many non-qualified hypnotherapists  have an interest in hypnosis and use this as a basis for treating others. While personal life experiences are valid they alone do not qualify a person for professional practice in hypnotherapy or counselling. If successful hypnotherapy is your aim, chose a qualified hypnotherapist.
  • Some questions to ask: The answers to questions such as the following may help you choose a hypnotherapist.
    • Does he/she abide by a recognised association’s code of conduct?
    • Is he/she a financial member of a nationally recognised professional body of hypnotherapists?
    • Does he/she undergo regular professional supervision and continuing professional development?
    • What is the cost of sessions and are there any other costs involved”
    • How long are sessions?
    • Are notes taken and if so what happens to them?
    • What are their qualifications and are they recognised.

Qualified professionals should not be offended by questions such as these and will be happy t0 answer them. If in doubt call one of the professional associations such as the AHA or ASCH.

It’s That Time of the Year Again

It’s That Time of the Year Again

New Year Resolutions 2017new Year 2017

Tomorrow is December 1st and university semesters are over for the year, school is almost finished and most of us have started planning our holidays with family and friends.
It’s usually after the holidays, between Christmas and the New Year that our thoughts turn to the immediate past and to the future. We think about the year just past perhaps with satisfaction or maybe with a twinge of disappointment as we remember the things we’d planned to do or change and realise that we’ve not quite achieved what we would have liked.

If we don’t attain our goals it’s often because of a lack of planning and follow through. Most of us don’t consider what we’d like to achieve in the future until the turn of the year, we then plan in a hurry without much thought and certainly without the planning necessary to help us to follow through and achieve our goals and dreams.

The French pilot and philosopher Antoine de Saint-Exupéry wrote;

“A goal without a plan is just a wish.”

To turn our wishes into reality we need a plan and plans take time to develop, own and realise. If you’re wishing for 2017 to be somehow different and better than 2016, now is the time to begin to dream, thinking plan.

Hypnotherapy is a powerful way of releasing your creative unconscious mind and resolving issues that may be hindering you from achieving your best. At Brisbane Hypnosis Clinic we help people just like you overcome anxiety, and reach their unconscious potential using hypnotherapy.

If you have dreams for 2017 and need a little help realising them, start planning to succeed now, not on New Year’s eve. All us on 07 3254 1373 or email us, come and see us at New Farm Hypnotherapy and let us help you achieve your very best.

Achieve Your Goals : 6 Things To Stop Doing

What to stop doing to achieve your goals

Even though unwanted or bad habits can stop us from achieving what we want, they can be hard to break.
Here are 6 habits that need to be broken if we are going to be successful.achieve you goals 2016

1. Stop Quitting

Achieving our best is never easy yet the temptation is to quit when things get difficult. Perseverance and working through the hard times is what makes people successful.

2. Stop Procrastinating

If you don’t want to do something today, the chances are you won’t want to do it tomorrow either. Refer to point 1, things may be difficult hard, but they wont be any easier tomorrow. Break things down into smaller steps so they seem manageable, take the first step and get it done.

3. Stop being a Victim

We can all be successful if we put our minds to it so don’t say your stuck or you don’t have a choice. We all have choice and ofter the only thing holding us back is ourselves and our thinking. We make decisions every day that hold us back when we need to start making decisions that help us in life, that help you reach our dream goal. No one else is responsible for the decisions we make other than ourselves.

4. Stop saying Yes

We all have a limited amount of time and don’t have much to waste. It is important to say no to people who will waste our time. When we say no to the unimportant and stop saying yes to everything that comes our way we free up more time than you can imagine.

5. Stop Expecting

No one can read our minds and no one knows what we want in life unless we tell them. No one knows we want something from them unless we specifically say it. When we stop expecting and start voicing our concerns or issues things start happening much faster.

6. Stop Avoiding

There are always things we don’t want to do, everyone has a list of stuff they hate but it doesn’t mean we can avoid doing them. Not everything is fun, or something you are passionate about. Sometimes we have to do things we don’t want to. Suck it up. Generally avoidance causes problems later.

If you need help getting it all together and achieving your potential hypnotherapy is a great way of getting focused and achieving your goals. We’re friendly and approachable and can help you decide on a program that suits you perfectly.

Losing Weight : Hypnosis and Common Sense

Achieving your weight loss goals isn’t rocket science

We all know what’s necessary to reach goals whatever they may be and that’s commitment,Losing weight perseverance and adhering to a few basic principles. This is true when it comes to achieving lasting weight control, energy expended must equal or exceed energy consumed. So what are the basic rules that help our clients achieve their weight loss goals?

  1. Eating healthy food: the closer to the farm, the better it’s likely to be. This is quite easy to do, instead of prowling the inner aisles of the supermarket keep to the outside where the fresh produce is displayed.
  2. Use a smaller plate: We all love to fill our plates to the when we sit down to a nice meal. Something about it makes it feel more satisfying that way. But the fact is, the average dinner plate, even when filled with nutritious healthy food is still going to be excessive in quantity because dinner plates have grown over the past 20 years. The average size is around 20 centimetres and if you fill this to the brim, you’re going to eat too much. So choose a smaller plate that you really like, buy a nice one if you need to  and you’ll naturally eat less while still enjoying the psychological benefit of visually enjoying a full plate of food.
  3. Reset your love of fast food: For most of us the purchase of fast food is either an impulsive or an emotional decision. To stop the impulse, we have to exercise willpower and willpower can result in a sense of feeling deprived or somehow restricted. Using hypnosis you can change this response and healthy habits become enjoyable as your attitude to food changes.
  4. Move your body: the human body is made to move, movement keeps us healthy, fit and supple. An essential part of any weight management program is taking a reasonable amount of responsible healthy exercise.
  5. Use hypnosis to get and stay motivated: hypnosis can help you achieve all of these principles by keeping you motivated and on track. Our clients enjoy achieving their weight loss goals because hypnotherapy makes it seem natural and easy instead of a chore.

If you’re having trouble with weight control and diets and fads haven’t worked for you, try losing weight in a completely natural and safe way without feeling deprived. It might take a little linger that a crash diet but the results with be there to stay because you’ll have changed the way you think about food and healthy living.

To use hypnotherapy for weight loss and to achieve your goals, we’ve friendly and approachable and can help you decide on a program that suits you perfectly.

It’s All In The Mind

Our imagination is more powerful that believe

In 2003 Dr Guang Yue of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation proved that the body can be physically changed simply by using the imagination showing that ‘it’s all in the mind’.

In a controlled experiment 30 adults spent 15 minutes a day visualizing exercising the little finger. All increased the strength of their little finger by up to 35% and strengthened the muscle around the elbow by around13%.

In a second study, 10 adults aged 20-35 imagined flexing one of their biceps has hard as possible in imagined training sessions five times a week. Electrical impulses at the motor neurons of their arm muscles were monitored to make certain they were not unintentionally tensing. After a few weeks biceps showed 13.5% increase in strength and maintained that gain for three weeks after training stopped.

Dr Yue presented his studies and results to the Sociaty of Neuroscience and showed that the creative imagination can be used to make real physical change in our bodies. It is this sort of training and imagination that is brought into play when we use hypnotherapy to help clients that want to make change at Brisbane Hypnosis Clinic.

If you want to achieve real change call us on 07 3254 1373 and talk to one of our Hypnotherapists and we’ll help you achieve your goals.

A Small Change In Diet Makes A Difference If You Want To Lose Weight

You may want to lose weight and like many have struggled with traditional ‘on and off’ dieting. If that’s the case a recent report released by King’s College in London offers hope and a different approach. It is one that we have successfully used at New farm Hypnotherapy Clinic for many years.

The report suggests that middle-aged people who cut down on fatty meat, butter and cakes can cut their risk of a heart attack by a third in just three months.

People who modified their diet slightly lowered their blood pressure, cholesterol and heart rate while at the same time losing weight and becoming slimmer around the waist.

This is an approach that we have taken with clients who want to lose weight for many years and hypnosis is a very effective way of changing your eating habits both in quantity and quality of food consumed.

High Risk and Binge Drinking

A new study released by the University of Western Sydney suggests a worrying rise in high risk alcohol intake by women aged 35 – 59 years old. This supports a trend that we have seen at Brisbane Hypnosis Clinic over the past few years. Ten years ago it was rare for women in this age group to present concerned about their drinking habits yet today this is probably about 30% of our work. This is why we developed the highly successful Taking Control program which helps people restore balance to their alcohol consumption. [Read more…]

How are the New Year’s Resolutions Going?

At the start of most years may of is take the time to reflect on what we have achieved, what we would like to change and perhaps even what we’d like to change. We make promises and commitments to ourselves by that somehow the coming year will be different.
These changes may involve change, personal growth or perhaps goals we’d like to achieve.
However the sad truth is that by the end of January many of us have lost the drive and motivation that the turn of the year brings and our promises and commitments are far behind us. Why is this so often the Pattern? [Read more…]
